Creating Revit plugin for OBO Bettermann
OBO Bettermann is a global leader in the production of systems for the management and protection of electrical and multimedia installations. It operates in 40 countries, offering comprehensive solutions for the electrical industry. The company has about 30,000 BIM products and objects, including among others. cable gutter systems, surge protection, fastening techniques and floor installations.
Problems of our client:
Within the framework of cable ladders, OBO wanted to change one parameter of the objects (route width) also to change other parameters of the cable route, e.g. description, ETIM class, etc. — because each route size is a different product.
OBO cable ladder systems had very complicated formulas, which negatively affected both the efficiency of the BIM object libraries themselves as well as the difficulties in maintaining them.
The BIM libraries offered by OBO consisted mainly of systems (e.g. cable ladders), which had very many variations. It was physically impossible to create all possible combinations of these systems and maintain them.
To improve the work with Revit models, the customer wanted to have the ability to easily operate the configurator and make changes in the process of automatic creation of BIM object systems.
Sellers manually created bills of materials (BOMs), which was time consuming and prone to errors. Each BOM had to be adapted to the company format, contain branding and specific data, which further lengthened the bidding process.
Solutions introduced by us
BIM Autodesk Revit add-on is enriched with Revit workflow, which listens for changes in route geometry values and automatically replaces parameters in Revit model according to configuration in Backoffice.
Thanks to the BIM plugin, during data entry we replaced complex, static formulas with dynamically generated LookupTable. They are also automatically entered into libraries.
The BIM plugin makes it possible to automatically generate BOMs - the Autodesk Revit add-on downloads the data, formats it as required and exports it in the appropriate layout.
We have implemented into BIM Autodesk Revit plugin the ability to change and customize the system selection steps in the configurator without interfering with the plugin code. This allows the client to define them from excel.
As part of the BIM Autodesk Revit add-on, we have also created a configurator that automatically creates various systems based on BIM models. Thanks to the BIM plugin, you do not have to maintain all possible combinations of products.
